The Case:

“The cops will never suspect me,” Pat thought as he tiptoed toward the living room, carrying a heavy iron skillet. One whack and his murderous plan would surely pan out! Mike, his brother, would be sitting where he sat every night, in his favorite chair, falling asleep in front of the TV. Killing him would be easy and foolproof.

A week later, alerted by a concerned neighbor, police broke into the apartment and found the bodies. Both men were in the living room: Mike dead in his chair, his head severely dented; Pat in another chair, just as dead. A piece of paper was on the coffee table.

The Mystery:

Why did Pat think he could get away with murder? What really happened that fateful night?

The Clues:

1. Mike had been very depressed lately.
2. Pat couldn’t see the state his brother was in.

I think this is what happened the night of the murder

1.Mike had been very depressed lately

Yes...he was. Any idea how his depression may have led to his demise?

Pat believed he could get away with murder because he was blind. He bashed in Mike's skull with his pan, and then sat down. All he would have to do is concoct a story about an intruder for the police. As he settled into his seat to await the perfect time to call for 'help' his hand automatically reached for his coffee mug. Unfortunately for him, Mike had decided to commit suicide and had been dissolving sleeping pills in the coffee. When Pat drank it he poisoned himself.

I don't think he really relized what he was doing, depression can make you do some weird things and sometimes you just don't remember how to handle life. I have depression and am now some better but one some days life just does not seem worth living, it is just hopeless and there is nothing you can do to feel better until that spell passes.

Thank God that He has helped me and nothing bad has happened.

My prayers are with you, Edna. I have a sister who suffers from depression sometimes. I know how traumatic it can be.

May God bless you.
